Chapter 4: Creating a Culture of Success

Know what is expected of a teacher is a hard thing to know. At least if the teacher does not clarify their expectations. Having some models or papers that the students can reflect own their own work makes them understand what they did well and what can be improved. Attaching this model to an assignment given can help the student know how to improve. Once the teacher looks over the model then the student can get even more feedback about what it is they need to accomplish. Pick out the good stuff that they did so that their self-esteem will not be harmed. Constructive criticism can benefit most students if it is said in the right manner. Give students goals to reach. If you ask them to write a page paper and they hand it is saying it was a breeze, then next time ask more of them. Kids love a challenge and will do anything to show you they can do it. In retrospect, don't overload the kids that think that even a half page is hard. Students are individuals.
