Reaction To Fires

I feel that my growth from this class experience has increased. I am finding more and more useful tools that can help me teach. This book is great because it covers the basics and forms many good teaching techniques needed to become a great teacher. By reading through the book, I have learned how to maintaine a positive look on students as well as the work they complete, knowing how to deal with certain situations, and how to work with others to form better styles of teaching.

Maine Memory Network

I would use this cool and unique network to have students research documents of medical advances and even documents on some of the important people that have made a difference in health. Having these documents and pictures can help the students understand different effects of diseases back when. Looking through the network I found a nutrition camp in Casco, health parades in portland, and documents on health reports. I find that these are tools that students can use, but if this network was not in place, students would lose out on useful information and documents. There are many type two learning skills that students can demonstrate while using the tools that this network provides such as a slideshow of documents.

Copyright and Fair Use

1. (1 on quiz) I understand that if a school owns a copy of Photoshop, then they have the right to put it up on the school server. What if the student who has that application takes the computer home from school because it is on their laptop? Is this still legal? I feel that if someone buys something then they should be able to do whatever they want with it.
2. (4 on quiz) I feel that if a school cannot afford to buy software for their school they should have the right to copy the download to any computer. The school is there to improve the education of students and to not allow a school to download an application to the schools server because it is copied, then that company should be prosecuted for stopping the education of the students.
3.(5 on quiz)If a teacher needs to have all students with a program on their computer and needs to burn Cd's for all student s to get it, I believe that the teacher has the right to do this for the classroom because it is fair. Yet, I think that our country is all about saving money by going outside the realm of copyrights. Think of all the music that people burn and sell or give to friends. It's not ever solely for the one person.
4. (6 on quiz) I love the fact that the Internet is a great source. It provides pictures and information that can make a classroom bloom with thinking minds. If someone credits the web page then it is a free for all. I love that!
5. (8 on quiz) Most downloads are meant for people to learn by in some way or to get something that they want to view. A statement says "legitimately acquired", what does that mean? Much usable information found now on file sharing web pages have big copyright laws that are hard to understand. If someone doesn't want their work taken then don't put it up on the wide open web.
6. (12 on quizzes) I love the fact that a student can get clips of videos from TV or a recording device off the TV. I feel that if they show it on TV, than anyone should have the right to use it if it is served as an educational tool. So grab all the laser disks you can find.
The guidelines for copyright are confusing and unnecessary rules that can be made clearer by just not having rules with it. If they have put an artifact out in the public then it should be used by everyone.

How to help someone use a computer ( trouble loading to page)

I find that on this page is a ton of information that many people can benefit from. Taking some of the information into mind, many people can avoid cyber bullying and advance their personal skills on the computer. Working with others on the computer just helps you attain the information you learned on their more than if you were to do it alone.
"Nobody is born knowing this stuff." I find that no one is born knowing this stuff, but some people are born into a knowledgeable family that can teach computer literacy at a very young age. I see that if someone was never around a computer at a young age then it would be harder for them to attain the information later on in life. That is why our generation is unique in the way that we grew up with the tools.
"When they do something wrong, don't say "no" or "that's wrong". They'll often respond by doing something else that's wrong. Instead, just tell them what to do and why." I feel that the computer is designed to do many of the tasks that you ask it to do. The only problem with these tasks is that you may have asked the wrong questions. Knowing what questions to ask and how to ask them is also a useful tool. I feel that knowing all the information from the article. I found out that nothing is ever the computers fault. Well, at least when you are trying to ask it something. Don't say to the computer that it is doing something wrong. The computer is just doing what they are asked.

Chapter 10: Going Beyond the Classroom

From the chapter title you may already have an idea of what this chapter is about. Being able to work, motivate, and interact with people outside of school is a goal that most teachers have. Teachers are preparing you for the real world and in doing so helping the students be able to work with experience professionals outside of school can help dramatically. Taking a field trip to a science museum and getting a tour is a fun and interesting way to gain information about history, art, culture, and life in a different time period. Also, this chapter has the notion that if the student is engaged in summer experiences such as an internship or summer work experience, it will help them acquire new skills and habits that better their lifestyle. It may also have them produce better academic skills and responsibilities. The classroom is just the beginning to what the work has to offer and it is only a piece of the big picture.

Chapter 9: When Thingss Go Wrong

Sometimes in a class nothing goes the way you want.Sometimes the students are off task, the teacher is exhausted, or even the weather is not the way you wanted. This can lead to an unsuccessful class. A waste of time... I think not. I believe that there will be days such like the one's listed above and because of this it is a good time to examine your lesson plan. Students want to be successful. It is very hard for them at this time to juggle the social and academic aspects of school when they just want to be liked. Is it cool to not do your homework? To some kids, they believe that others will like them because they are rebellious. Bringing this to there attention sometimes they even feel bad about not doing their work. When one aspect starts to collapse the other is not to far behind. Giving the students a progress report and talking to them one-on-one can open there eyes to how important the lessons are. Give them time in the end to clean up their act and jump on task.Even when they are out of school they have the will and determination to learn something new. Although the teacher wants to be the one that every student likes, this is not the most important. I would rather have someone dislike me and walk away grasping the information, than having them like me and pull nothing from the lesson. Whether to be a friend or an instructor is a balancing act a teacher will learn to do in the first few years of teaching. They will conform to what they know best. Being in the schools right now I can see the students who need the extra help and just don't say anything. Talking with them one-on-one can help them, but when they don't take your advise it seems harder to approach the next one. Be there for them and let them know you are there for them.

Chapter 8: Teaching Teenagers Who Are Still Learning English

Having someone in the classroom that has a language barrier can have it's good and bad qualities. I remember when we got a foreign exchange student sent to our school. He was a very intelligent kid, but when it came to understanding what the teacher said, he was at a loss. His grades plummeted and he needed extra help with a language councilor during all classes. Having that disability in the classroom probably made it a little harder for the teacher to complete their lesson because of all the questions he needed to ask. That's why being open to different learning techniques in the classroom can benefit both the teacher and the students. Having someone with cultural differences can benefit the classroom in that they can bring their cultural views into play. When giving out reading assignments be cautious of how hard and challenging the readings might be. Making connections between the students life or background and the material at hand, can help us learn from each other.Having a person in the school's that can help the student learn English and also use their own language is another key ingredient to better learning. Having the school adapt to the students instead of the student adapting to the school.

Language barrier in a worldwide perspective.
